The simple answer? I prefer my imperfect body the way it is now, thank you. For example: what if we had no fingers to grip and manoeuvre objects in our hands? What if our spines had developed to be flexible and malleable instead of strong and sturdy? What if our first reaction is to process problem-solving in abstract thought instead of logical thought? Thankfully, I can answer these awfully specific questions with the help of Human Fall Flat. Now let us take a second moment to reflect on how near impossible our lives would be if we had evolved in a way that stripped us of some of our most essential abilities. From our ability to recognize a staggeringly uncountable amount of details with our eyes, to the fact that we are the only species in the known universe with enough self-awareness and thirst for knowledge to discover such things about ourselves. From the miles upon miles of our nervous systems to the billions of complex electrical synapses, our brains compute daily. It’s a whole thing.Let's all take a moment to appreciate the complexity of our own bodies. Some players might find this entertaining, while others may become frustrated at the seeming lack of precision – but make no mistake, the physics and controls are shonky on purpose. All of this is complicated further by the character’s unstable gait: it staggers instead of walks, and hurls itself forward instead of jumps. These controls are difficult to master – you’ll more often than not find your faceless character stumble off the edge of the map, or miss its target and land somewhere else. A virtual joy stick on the left lets you move your character, and there’s also a jump button thrown in for good measure. Controls in the bottom-right of the screen let you grab onto objects, push buttons, and drag items. It also comes from your ability to control both hands of your small, faceless humanoid – something which is really satisfying (if a little difficult) to do. The physics spin in Human Fall Flat comes from the fact that these objects are movable, and one object will interact with another.
